BLACK NATIVITY 2019- 10th Annual

10th Annual Black Nativity - Savannah

Our (Performing Arts Collective) 10th Annual production of  Langston Hughes Black Nativity show was such a great success! Entire Cast and crew were mind blowing. This years show featured Wonderful new talent as well as awesome returning talent from previous years. The Coastal Cathedral host venue was unbelievably perfect and welcoming. As always Muriel Miller’s choreography and Gary Swindell’s music shone through. A new aspect presented itself this round to enhance the show in a great way. Eastside Players is the original theatrical part of Performing Arts Collective and Rodney Creech is the cofounder along with Gary and Priscilla Swindell of the Eastside Players. Well this year Rodney served as the staging director of the show and really brought it in a dynamic way. So for the first time in the run of the show we had all the founding members of PAC were at the helm of the show expressing their specialties to make the show great.

Adding to the historic and generational significance of this years show,  The daughter of Ja Jahannes, Lucia, performed as Mary this year and Gary Swindell’s son and Daughter- Gary Swindell Jr and Nia Swindell White also performed especially with an added original song (Come Meet the Lord) written and performed by Gary Swindell Jr in the Roman Soldier scene that we added last year. Muriel’s son Alex reprised his role as the Roman Soldier and  Josh also stepped up as assistant.Music director and as bassist in the band between dances. Most of the dancers and actors have performed every year for the past 10 and some of our members were in our first show and returned for this years show 10 years later including the awesome Spitfire Poetry- Marquis L Williams and so many others.  Some wonderful first timers added their awesome voices and energy to the mix this year to make the show extra special including Karlene and her daughter Afia, and Tyron Griffin who comes from a legacy of great singers, and recording artist King Lamon!
 The BNative Band -
(Sax-Thomas Duncan, Percussion-Mike Butler, Drums- Cliff Mills,
Bass- Josh Miller  Viola- Jalin Graham,  Keys- GSwindell)
This is a very eclectic and simultaneously extremely cohesive group
of musicians whose individual specialties include jazz, classical, R and B, Gospel and
original music and bring it all into a wonderful blend of soulful joy. Huge props also to
Pastor Ken Rouche who also featured a couple songs on the Bass each show.

The Coastal Cathedral venue served perfectly for the high energy
expansive choreography by Muriel Miller and insightful staging by
Director Rodney Creech.
