A LOSING GAME
Okay so here's another Music blog for you...In the midst of preparing a music/spoken word compilation with Poets in PAC / Spitfire one of our folks (Phoenix) came in for a writing session and i was listening to some stuff she had in mind for concepts and she said the phrase "gamble with my heart" and that sparked a musical idea ! She fed lots of the lyric ideas and the music just came naturally after i synthesized the best of what she brought & finished the lyric the next day (shared copyright).. the song is about unrequited love & how devastating it can be.
As usual, for me, the song goes waaaay past the obvious sentimental heartbreak as a result of unrequited affection, which can negatively skew one's whole outlook on real love to the point that it mutates into something unrecognizable. It's a lesson / warning about jumping the gun and not getting to know a person before investing deep emotion etcc...even when you know better... this is why i repeatedly used the phrase " I should have known" in the lyric.
On the deepest level the message is that our worst decisions are made by being led by our flesh and being in a hurry and are most often the path to a broken heart. thus the subtext of the opening line .. "I should have known not to lay out all my cards"... We belong to God and should be led by HIS Spirit in all things including relationships so our heart, body, etc... are not ours to casually throw around.... without HIS leading everything is a gamble... emotional attachment that is not at it's root informed by and mirroring Agape but based on the lust of the eye, the lust of the flesh and the pride of life is definitely a losing game. Endeavor to "walk in love" the love of God! & experience the true joy that you are designed for. Please enjoy this song sample on all levels..
