TULIPS

Some years ago when I worked at the Arts College a film student approached me about writing some music for her film project and I replied- "well let's see, if I have time". When she emailed me the script and I read this beautiful little story I immediately replied "absolutely"! By that time I had already acted in a couple of student films and done voiceovers for some other projects but was only moderately enthused about any of those. But this project was different, it was international, part of it spoken in Korean with English subtitles, so simply and elegantly written yet multilayered with existential, spiritual, themes. After I had said yes in the email Hiroko Kato walked in my office and stole my heart as only a daughter can and I could put up no resistance.. I made time to not only compose music for her film but act in it as well.. the theme song in the ending credits is titled  I Wonder also the theme that my character sings to himself throughout is a whole other song I created for the project titled The Garden...  this continues to be one of my favorite pieces of work and one I am most proud of . so glad to be back in touch with Hiroko after several years. I misplaced my copy and never posted it before but  she sent me a copy of the film and I just have to share it!  well check it out..

Lyrics to THE GARDEN
How do the flowers in your garden stand so tall
Blossoming as they grow
Water light and love make flowers grow
Water light and love make glories glow
Every bloom that falls born and reborn again.

Lyrics to I WONDER
Our garden is a place of wonder
I wonder if others can see
The faces smiling in the flowers
Their colors calling to the bees
Does this place of magic disappear when we leave
And appear again each time that we return
Or is it's beauty on a frequency that only friends can perceive
And only those who truly love can discern I wonder
Our garden is a place of laughter
Love's music dancing on the leaves
The birds all join us in the singing
So sweet I hardly can believe
Does this place of magic disappear when we leave
And appear again each time that we return
Or is it's beauty on a frequency that only friends can perceive
And only those who truly love can discern
I wonder
I wonder
I wonder
